EGYPT ON THE BLUES SESSION

Friday 15th July and another live session with the Blues-Rock band Egypt. Guitar and smokey vocals from Eric Chipulina and solid bass from Alan Fish. It was a pleasure to sit back and enjoy this no nonsense blues rock duo with a mixture of original material and alternative takes on well know blues standards. The band was originally going to have the full line up but the drummer Peter Correa was unable to attend at short notice; however I did get the opportunity to play harmonica during two songs and loved it. I hope the audience did too... For more information on 'Egypt' go to www.egypt-blues.co.uk

Dave Beckett & Eddie Armer live on The Blues Session

A big thank you to Dave Beckett and Eddie Armer for another great live set on The Blues Session. Also thank you for allowing Heather and I to join in with harmonica and washboard! I'm not sure if this skiffle band is ready for a U.K tour but it was really good fun. Recordings of the shows are available please e-mail me for details: martin@thebluessession.co.uk (£1 cost is minimal to cover the CD and P&P)

BlueTouch on The Blues Session 1st July 2011

How can I possibly sum up BlueTouch? Well here goes... What a thoroughly nice bunch of chaps & a Chapess!
The picture says it all. I've not enjoyed a show so much for a long time and it did help that Merv Griffin (bass) was celebrating his X1st Birthday. So after coming out of the news at 9pm and Heather having read the weather, we presented Merv with a cake including candles. Fortunately we had the Surrey Fire brigade on standby and the ceremony went by without the need for first aid, although a few of us suffered with heat stroke.

The band performed without a hitch and the sound produced was superb. A very big thank you to Neil Sadler (guitar/ studio engineer) for assisting in getting the sound just right. www.myspace.com/nomachinestudios

If you have a chance to see BlueTouch playing live, I strongly recommend that you do. A lovely blend of new and old blues with a twist along the way.

The Bluetouch line up are (left to right) Neil Sadler (guitar), Alan Cleaves (guitar), Andrea-Maria (vocals), Merv Griffin (bass) and Hugh Lawrenson (drums). For more info go to www.bluetouch.co.uk

The Riotous Brothers on The Blues Session

Friday 3rd June - This show was almost a riot, thanks to The Riotous Brothers cramming the studio full of kit for a set that spanned both hours of the show. These guys have a great sound and more details are on their web site http://www.riotousbrothers.com/

The band line up left to right in the picture are: Mash Sonnett (guitar/vocals), Paul Long (keyboards/vocals), Martin Clarke (me), Mat Lake (bass) and Dirk Maggs (drums). The album 'Shout it out' is available from most outlets and is a great CD for any blues/rock fan as not only is it a superb album but the material is all original too!

Mark Buck live session

Friday 27th May and it's the return of Mark Buck into Studio 2 for a live set on The Blues Session. With a new album in the pipeline this was a chance for Mark to play tracks from his current album and an opportunity for me to play harmonica alongside for a couple of songs... Also in the picture my hard working Producer Heather who always keeps the show and me on track :-)

The Skiffle 'n' Blues Band live session

Friday 20th May was the return of the Skiffle 'n' Blues Band featuring Bill Farrow (guitar/vocals), Richie Milton (guitar/vocals) and Alan Glen (harmonica). This was a great fun show with plenty of laughs all round and some great acoustic numbers from these well seasoned musicians...

Gordon Smith & Friends

The Blues Session - Friday 15th April 2011 Live music in the studio from Gordon Smith, Alan Glen and Jim Mercer. The quality of blues rarely gets better than this... all three artists are a master at what they do. Superb guitar work from Gordon Smith, backed by superb vocals. Alan Glen, one of the top harmonica players in the U.K and a style of his own that other players can only attempt to mimic. Jim Mercer with a circa 1950's double bass that sounds as good as it looks. Live music almost every Friday on The Blues Session on Radio Wey... come join us for two hours of blues. Friday from 9pm listen on-line www.radiowey.co.uk

The Barcodes - Album launch for 'Be Cool'

Saturday 9th April 2011 - Brook's Blues Bar, Fulham. Brook’s Blues Bar is tucked away off the beaten track in a corner of Fulham that could quite easily be missed unless you had a reason to be there. Going to see The Barcodes launch a new album was more than enough reason. The new album ‘Be Cool’ is the very best from the trio of well seasoned blues and jazz musicians. Alan Glen (The Yardbirds, Nine below Zero, Little Axe and The Incredible Blues Puppies) on guitar and harmonica provided vocals; Bob Haddrell played keyboards, bass pedals and also provided vocals; Dino Coccia (Grace Jones, Harmonica Fats) was on drums. This evening also included guest saxophonist/flautist Nick Newall (Zoot Money’s Big Roll Band).

The Blues Session - Full on.

Friday 25th March was a busy night on The Blues Session with a live set from Adam Grogdope and a chance to chat for the first time with Jennifer Wheeler who is an Aficionado and devotee of the Chicago Blues Scene. With tracks from Adam's recently released CD, information overload on the world of Blues in and around Chicago and a special tribute to the late Pinetop Perkins who passed on the 21st March to Blues Heaven; the show was full on!

Friday 25 March 2011

The Tribute to Cyril Davies at The Eel Pie Club

The Tribute To Cyril Davies night on Wednesday 23rd March is an annual event not to be missed and this year was no exception. The line up was so big this year that they ran out of time, which was a great shame. The musician of the evening for me was Art Themen who seemed to smile throughout both sets and congratulate fellow musicians with looks of acknowledgement; what a nice bloke... A recording of the event is available on CD, just e-mail me for details.

Saturday 19 March 2011

Friday 18th March 2011 - The Blues Session with live music from Oli Brown and Ron Sayer. This was an amazing show and probably one of the best ever acoustic sets from Oli who is a very talented singer/song writer and guitarist. Ron Sayer was also fantastic and no surprises on how he picked up an award for best guitarist in 1996!

Wednesday 16 March 2011

Fellow Blues Presenters

BBC Studio 2 - Maida Vale, London. Tuesday 15th March 2011 and the recording of a two hour special to celebrate Paul Jones and 25 years of broadcasting for the Beeb. What a great night it turned out to be. Music from 24 Pesos, Marcus Bonfanti and Oli Brown.

Saturday 26 February 2011

The Delano Rockets (formally The Phil Astles Band) now includes Geoff Peel on guitar. Geoff's guitar work brings a whole new dimension to the band and they are about to record a debut album for release later this year. Some amazing new material and a new smooth sound will carry this band to success, I'm sure.

Saturday 19 February 2011

Friday 18th February 2001 - The Blues Session with Richard Clarke providing an acoustic set made up of self penned songs and covers. A talented singer, song writer and guitar player who is going places... First heard on radio on 'The Blues Session'.
